The Embassy of India has the pleasure to announce the opening of a photo exhibition titled ‘On the Ganges Riverbank’ on the auspicious occasion of celebrations of 66th Republic Day of India. The exhibition, displayed in the Auditorium of the Embassy, will be open to the public till February 6, 2015.

Photographs were shot by Alain Daniélou and Raymond Burnier, between 1935 and 1955 and capture the majesty of River Ganges along with the spiritual song of life that this Holy river nurtures. Both Daniélou and Burnier were devotees of ancient Indian culture and spirituality, and their works both literary and photographic, exude their deep understanding and love for India. These photographs are part of their acclaimed exhibition, which was inaugurated by the first President of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad, in Kolkata. Later, this exhibition travelled far and wide and won accolades all over the world.

This excellent composition is complimented by some splendid photographs (in color) taken by Jacques Clòarec, Honorary President of FIND, an association that is devoted to the promotion of Danielou’s works regarding Indian culture, spirituality and heritage. Some of these photographs taken by Jacques present the life along Ganges and the holy town of Varanasi in contemporary times, contrasting to the splendor captured by Danielou and Burnier in black and white.
