Press Release for the 76th Independence Day celebrations

The Embassy of India in Rome celebrated the 76th Indian Independence Day today with great fervor and enthusiasm at the Indian House. Ambassador Dr. Neena Malhotra unfurled the national tri-color followed by singing of national anthem. She read out the message of the Hon’ble President of India to the Nation on the occasion of the Independence Day.

2) The flag hoisting was followed by a gala cultural performance under the theme “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. The performances included recitation of poems, Bharatnatyam dance, Bollywood dance on patriotic songs and folk dances. The highlight of the cultural performance was the Bhangra Dance by a local bhangra group. Students from La Sapienza University also presented song and cultural dance show apart from turning in large numbers. Concluding the event, Ambassador felicitated the participants and the cultural groups that took part in the event. Refreshments were served at the end of the function.

3) The event was attended by approximately 600 Indian community members, friends of India and media persons. This was the largest ever participation in an Embassy event in the past few years.
