Press Release for the 77th Independence Day celebrations

The Embassy of India in Rome celebrated the 77th Indian Independence Day today with patriotic fervor and great enthusiasm at the India House. The event coincided with the conclusion of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations. It is pertinent to note that the 75th anniversary of establishment of India-Italy diplomatic relations has also been celebrated this year. Ambassador Dr. Neena Malhotra unfurled the tri-color followed by singing of national anthem. She read out the message of the Hon’ble President of India to the nation on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day.

2) The flag hoisting was followed by a short cultural performance under the theme “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. The performances included recitation of poems, Bharatnatyam dance and Giddha dance performances. The main attraction of the function was the classical and folk dance performances. Indian students from various local universities and diaspora members in Rome also actively participated while singing patriotic songs and dances in the informal settings. At the conclusion of the event, Ambassador felicitated the participants and the cultural group members that took part in the event. Refreshments/light brunch was also served at the end of the function.

3) The event was attended by approximately 500 Indian community members from all walks of life including Indian community members, friends of India and media persons. The Indian commuity attended the event in large numbers.
