Press Release on the 21st India-Italy Joint Economic Commission held through the virtual platform on 09 July, 2021

The 21st Session of the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation was held through the virtual mode on 9 July, 2021. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister for Commerce and Industries, Textiles and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution from the Indian side and H.E. Mr. Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation from the Italian side.

2) During the meeting, the two sides discussed the following agenda items:

  • Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises.

  • Infrastructure with focus on High Speed Railways.

  • Review on Cooperation under the India-Italy Fast Track Mechanism.

  • Cooperation in promotion of start-up industries.

  • Deliverables on the India-EU leaders meeting held in Porto.

  • Market Access Issues.

  • Non recognition of Covishield vaccine in EU for travel purposes.

3) Both sides reiterated the importance of JCEC and agreed to:-

  • Hold an Annual JCEC Meeting.

  • Explore the option of India-Italy Joint Collaboration in third countries.

  • Cooperation in infrastructure sector including Railways.

  • Digital Transition and

  • Expansion of bilateral trade to new fields such as leather, textiles and agro food processing.

4) Following the India-Italy JCEC G2G Meeting, a G2B Meeting focusing on Energy partnership was held virtually. During the meeting, 3 Indian companies and 3 Italian companies made presentation focusing on the areas of green economy, clean technology and promotion of use of renewable energy for grid-based multi-energy systems.

5) Both sides concluded on a positive note by agreeing to enhance two countries and to explore explore mutual capacities in various other fields including solar energy as Italy has currently joined the International Solar Alliance.
