The 70th anniversary of India's Independence was celebrated in Rome with the flag-hoisting ceremony in the morning of 15 August, 2017 at the Embassy premises. The ceremony was attended by members of the Indian community in large numbers.
Smt. Reenat Sandhu, Ambassador of India unfurled the national flag. It was followed by singing of the national anthem. The ‘President’s Address to the Nation’ was read out by the Ambassador.
The Mission also organised a lecture-cum-seminar to commemorate India@70. Prominent speakers from the fields of academics, commerce and culture were invited to talk about India’s journey through the last seventy years. The event began with the screening of a short film titled ‘India Boundless’. The opening remarks were delivered by Ambassador Reenat Sandhu. The three guest speakers included Professor Fabio Scialpi, an expert on Indian Philosophy, Religions and History. Mr. Antonio Fasano, Managing Director, Relations at Work India Private Limited, Mumbai spoke on India’s journey in the economic and commercial arena. He was of the firm view that there is immense potential in strengthening economic and commercial ties between the two countries. The third speaker - Mr. Jacques Cloarec, Honorary President of India-Europe Foundation for New Dialogue talked about India’s diverse art and culture. A short AV production capturing views of the local populace about India and how they relate to our country was also screened during this event.
In the evening of 15 August, 2017, the National Flag / Tiranga was projected on the facade of the Chancery premises as part of our celebrations.
